Free website builder with a free domain: what you really get
Published 2 November 2026The short answer
Most free website builders publish your site on their own address, not on a domain of your own. A free custom domain usually comes with a paid plan: GoDaddy lists one on its annual-billing plans from $9.99 a month, and Hostinger includes one for the first year of a 48-month prepaid term. Orivox's free plan uses an Orivox address, and its $5 a month plan lets you connect one domain of your own.
We make Orivox, so treat this as the publisher's view. Every figure for another company comes from that company's own pages, read on 2 November 2026 or 4 November 2026, as marked; where a page did not say, we say so. Prices change and vary by country, so check before you buy.
Three things people mean by a free domain
- A free address on the builder's own domain, such as yourname.platform.com. This is what a free plan gives, and it lasts as long as you keep the plan.
- A free custom domain, such as yourbusiness.com, included with a paid plan. Hostinger's page limits it to the first year; GoDaddy's page does not say.
- A domain you already own, connected to the builder. GoDaddy's FAQ says you can connect your own domain to any published project.
What each builder's own page says about domains
| Builder | What its page says |
|---|---|
| Orivox | The free plan publishes on an Orivox address. Single Site, $5 a month, connects one custom domain; the plans page does not say registration is included. |
| GoDaddy | A free custom domain on the annual-billing plans from $9.99 a month; how long it is free and the renewal price are not stated. |
| Durable | Launch includes a domain connection or free registration worth up to $20. |
| Framer | The free plan has a Framer domain; the $10 a month Basic plan includes a free custom domain. |
| Hostinger | Premium includes a free domain for the first year, on a 48-month prepaid term: $2.49 a month, $119.52 upfront, renewing at $10.99 a month. |
| Wix | Your own domain needs a Premium plan. |
| Google Sites | Google says it can help you buy a domain through a partner registrar; no price is stated. |

Three questions that decide the real price
- How long is the domain free, and what does it cost to renew? A year of free is a different offer from a domain that stays free.
- Does it need annual billing? GoDaddy's annual-billing cards list the free domain and its monthly-billing cards did not.
- Can I move the domain later? Ask whether it is registered in your name, so you can point it at another builder if you change your mind.
When a free address is enough
To test an idea, or to have a page online this week, a free plan on the builder's address is a legitimate start. Orivox's free plan publishes on an Orivox address with no card and no time limit, so you can judge the first draft before you pay. Switch to a paid plan when customers need to remember your name, because your own domain is what they type and what search engines index under your business.
Common questions
Can I get a website builder and a domain for free?
You can get a website for free on the builder's own address. A free custom domain is usually tied to a paid plan, and on the pages we read it comes with annual billing or for the first year only.
Does Orivox include a free domain?
Orivox's plans page does not list a free domain. The free plan publishes on an Orivox address, and the Single Site plan at $5 a month lets you connect one domain of your own.
What should I check before I accept a free domain?
Check how long it is free, what the renewal price is, and whether you can move it to another builder later. A free first year is worth less if the renewal price is high.
Describe your business in a sentence or two and Orivox builds the first draft of your website. The free plan needs no credit card.
