Which AI is best for creating a website for free?
Published 2 November 2026The short answer
There is no single best AI for this, because three different kinds of tool get called AI website makers. An AI assistant writes code and text that you must host yourself, an AI website builder gives you a hosted site you edit by chatting, and an AI app builder is for software. For a small business site, a builder with a free plan, such as Orivox, is the shortest path.
We make Orivox, so treat this as the publisher's view. Every figure for another company comes from that company's own pages, read on 4 November 2026; where a page did not say, we say so. Prices change, so check before you buy.
Three kinds of AI for building a website
| Feature | AI assistant (a general chatbot) | AI website builder | AI app builder |
|---|---|---|---|
| You get | Code and text to place yourself | A finished, hosted site | Apps and web products |
| Hosting | A separate job: you arrange it | Included on Orivox's paid plans | Lovable's FAQ says hosting costs nothing for most smaller or new apps |
| Editing later | Ask again, or edit the code | Chat or a visual editor | Chat, in a developer-style tool |
| Examples | General-purpose chatbots | Orivox | Lovable, Replit |

What free means in each kind
- AI assistants: free plans limit how much you can use, so a long back-and-forth about a big site can run into the cap.
- AI website builders: free plans limit sites, storage and credits. Orivox's free plan is one site, 5 AI credits a month plus 15 on signup and 100 MB, on an Orivox address.
- AI app builders: Lovable's free plan gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, according to its pricing page.
Pick by the job you have
- You want a business site online this week with hosting handled: use a website builder.
- You want to learn, or you will keep working with the code yourself: an assistant can write it, and you arrange hosting and a domain.
- You are building an app with logins, data or AI features: use an app builder such as Lovable or Replit.
- Whichever you pick, your own domain is usually the first thing a free plan leaves out.
A ten-minute test
- Write two sentences about your business: what you do, for whom, and where.
- Give them to one tool of each kind that you are curious about.
- For each result, ask what you would have to do next to get it online at an address.
- Count the steps and the costs. The shortest honest route is your answer.
Common questions
Can an AI assistant publish my website for me?
It can write the files, but putting them online needs hosting, which is a separate service unless the tool includes it. A website builder includes that step.
Is a free AI website builder good enough for a business site?
For a simple one, yes. A free plan can publish a site on the builder's own address, and you add your own domain when you move to a paid plan. Check the limits before you build.
Which free AI is easiest for a beginner?
A website builder, because it hosts the site and you edit by chatting or in a visual editor. Assistants and app builders assume you will handle code or a developer-style tool.
Describe your business in a sentence or two and Orivox builds the first draft of your website. The free plan needs no credit card.
